Govett’s Leap

1976 Fibreglass, resin and marble dust

Blackheath, Blue Mountains, NSW

Life size horse and rider depicting William Romaine Govett- an early government surveyor.

Commissioned by the Blackheath Rhododendron Festival Committee, the work attracted controversy about the myth that Govett was in fact a bushranger who leapt to his death astride his horse at the falls known as Govett’s Leap.
